Malta Individual Investor Programme (IIP) allows for the grant of a certificate of naturalisation as a citizen of Malta to foreign nationals and their dependants.

 

Eligibility

 

Nationals of every country, except those countries where international sanctions apply or which the Maltese government decides to exclude from time to time on the basis of policy, may apply.

In order to qualify under the programme the main applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;

  • Be in possession of a residential address in Malta, by:

    • buying a residential property in Malta having a minimum value of Eur350,000; or

    • renting property for a minimum annual rent of Eur16,000;

The property is to be retained (if bought) or leased (if rented) for a period of at least 5 years.

  • Invest in stocks, bonds, debentures or other investments for a minimum value of Eur150,000 to be held for a minimum period of 5 years;

  • Pay a contribution to the Maltese National Development & Social Fund of Eur650,000, and

  • Have global health insurance cover for him/her and for any dependants.

 

The applicant must satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria which primarily focus on the importance of a clean criminal record.  No certificate of naturalization will be issued unless the main applicant provides proof that he has been resident of Malta for a period of at least 12 months.

 

Malta benefits

Eligible dependants

 

Eligible dependants of the main applicant include:

  • Spouse;

  • Child (including adopted child) of applicant or spouse who is less than 18 years of age;

  • Child of applicant or spouse who is 18 to 26 years old, is not married and is wholly maintained by the applicant;

  • Child of the applicant or spouse who is more than 18 years of age, is physically or mentally challenged and is living with and supported by the applicant; and

  • Parent or grandparent of the applicant or spouse who is more than 55 years of age, is wholly maintained by the applicant and forms part of his/her household.

 

Other qualifying beneficiaries

 

Beneficiaries of the Malta Global Residence Programme shall be allowed to apply for the IIP Citizenship Programme subject to satisfying all the eligibility requirements.
